THE HIDDEN TRACK

The following passages are dedicated to Leopold, to the vernacular, to certain evil women (you know who you are), to certain wonderful people(they know who they are), to soft afternoons and quiet Sunday evenings, to Fall and seeing your breath for the first time since Spring, and to Isabelle Ya Feng ... a soul slipped by like two ships passing in the still, moonlit sea.

On the Back of the Photo...

“Mr. Talbert,

It’s not as if I conceal any unpleasant features. To the contrary, Oscar, most find my attributes rather acceptable. I simply wished to shelter my characteristics with my hat and hair so as to surprise you in person with my full countenance upon our next engagement! Alluring, is it not?

With my poor humor aside, I must press that I do long for your company. I miss our conversation. I am alive; yet, I remain idle until we touch hands again.

Affectionately Yours,

--S. Packard”
